Yesterday I had a fantastic afternoon shooting conceptual fashion works in the breezy streets of Fremantle. Sarah Cole’s conceptual collection ‘Kaleidoscope’ modelled by the stunning Erin Riedel was about accentuating the female form with strong colours and angles setting off more organic and natural forms. We had considered a studio shoot to isolate the brightness of the garments but decided that natural light and settings would be more in keeping with the conceptual brief. Controlling light in a studio can yield fantastic results however one often feels a studio environment lacks spontaneity. Having to control natural light is challenging but when suited up with the right backdrop can give a really interactive and provocative image. For ‘Kaleidoscope red’ we went for a pure and happy look which was aided by the warm tones of Freo limestone and a bold paint work of a car park building. ‘Kaleidoscope blue’ naturally favoured the whiter and cooler light, Erin giving us a hint of unknowing and mystery. ‘Kaleidoscope pink’ just hailed elegance and class.

Toned down and smartened up art nouveau portraits

I was browsing through some old photos I took on a school tour and this art nouveau style shot jumped out at me. I really love the high contrast and use of negative space just in general in both photography and art (particularly in architecture, minimalist and modern). This photo which was taken without much thought – spontaneous style – got me thinking though…How about trying the art nouveau portrait style, tone it down a notch and smarten it up to give great looking, high contrast and high impact profile shots. Steve and Raegen Main

Recently shot Raegen and Steve’s wedding held at a beautiful beach location – Hillary’s Yacht Club. A beautifully simple and elegant wedding, Steve and Raegen also invited their housemate (dog) Cassius who promised to be very well behaved and added to the wonderfully fun experience. Definitely a unique touch.
